A few months ago, I realized it’s been AGES since I’ve been on a trip by myself. It was a sad fact. K suggested that I go away. Rather than leaving him alone with two kids, I thought it would be fun to have one-on-one time for both of us with each kid.
For 2 nights and 3 days.. 3 hour train rides..
Having my little guy snuggled up in my arm during the rides brought a lot of fond memories of my own childhood
I had spent a lot of time with mom, traveling. Me, her, and a bag. Of course, a camera. We were team and we were everywhere.
And here I was on a train, drawing together, talking about who we were meeting, what we were going to do at our destination… Our first long trip together away from home..
Of course, there were moments that were completely stressful. After all, he’s almost 3 with energy bouncing off the wall.
Patricia has two kids and her sister and a niece who were visiting from Paris. It makes me happy that after almost 10 years being friends, we remain the same happy girls. Now, we have families of our own, and kids are becoming friends.
Summer is passing by. You can feel the next season coming. It’s no longer that hot which makes you pant with your tongue hanging out.
We’ve been working a lot this summer. We have a few trips later part of this year, so we really didn’t take time off for vacation.
But it’s been good summer so far enjoying the city in the summer.
Today, we all got up late and had nice breakfast. Kinda last minute, we decided to go to Prospect park zoo. I love Bay Ridge is far enough to feel almost like suburb but it’s really only 15min car ride to Prospect Park and the area.
We were there when Jinu was younger and obviously he didn’t remember the time we visited.
With petting zoo.. garden.. and all.. fun time was had by all. Ava? She was snuggled in my sling and I loved every moment of it!
This Summer, I’ve decided that Fridays were our special days. It’s been so much fun.
When Ava was first born, we were worried about how J would handle another baby in the house. One of the strategy was that we would do a lot of one-on-one time.
More than anything it’s special and amazing to see my son transform into this little boy, little independent person right before my eyes.
Today, we held hands up and down the stairs all over the city. N train, 1 train, Bridges, Taxi, Children’s Museum, lunch at a cute spot on upper west side, my old hood where K and I started our life together as a couple…
Not so long ago, I held a baby who babbled in my arms.. Today, I walked hand in hand, talking about life with my son… What a joyful day… *sniffle*
Our lovely parents watched the kids so we could go out to catch a movie.
Phew.. it’s been a while.
Everytime we are given a chance to go see a movie at a theater, we always end up having a nice dinner followed by a long stroll. Well, this time, we really went to see a movie for a change.
Pineapple Express.. Both K and I get a good chuckle out of good quality stoner movies (such as Half Baked. Dave Chappelle anyone!!). “Pineapple Express” was funny. It’s nice to see a funny movie at a theater.. not on video on demand!
I totally feel like one. I mean, I AM one. But I just live my life, doing my thing with kids. So it’s not like I walk around thinking, “I AM A PARENT!”.
Well, tonight, I sat through two hours of preschool orientation. Would you laugh if I told you it felt like the first day of school year? It was so weird to be sitting in a room with many other PARENTS talking about upcoming school year. HOLY @#(*!
Flood of memories of my childhood totally intoxicated my head.
My mom dropping me at MY kindergarten schools, surprised that I actually can remember that long ago, teacher/parent conferences throughout my school years, parent teacher days…. All these that I associated with MY mom!! and it’s my turn!!
Haha.. my mom brought this photo. Jinu and I are the same age.
This amusement park is called “Children’s Big Playground”. At the time, (70s!) this was the biggest amusement park in Korea. Now, there are a few fancy ones.
I miss old days Korea. It was so much fun growing up there..
I’ve met Patricia when we were all living in Boston. An instant friend upon meeting at my first REAL job after college. EF was a fun place for all of us who was working the FIRST real job after schools. That was back in 1998.
10 years later. She’s got two kids and I’ve got two kids!!
